November 2018 saw Alpha Training receive a Highly Commended Award in the Medium sized Business category at the Worthing and Adur Business Awards 2018. Fast forward to March 2019, and Alpha were delighted to be awarded the MET 2019 Employer of the Year Runner Up accolade.
The judging committee recognised that the processes put in place by senior management alongside their strong mentoring support enables the team to pursue their personal development goals.
Head of Business Operations Louise Grant states: “As an organisation we truly believe that empowered and engaged employees lead to happier customers. Encouraging our teams to take ownership and responsibility for their development gives them the drive to succeed. Examples of development can come in the form of formal qualifications, volunteering or self-learning.”
Focus on personal development
We encourage a strong focus on developing our teams and encouraging staff to take ownership of their own personal development to gain qualifications and a wider experience. This approach sees a more rounded approach to service, appreciating a better understanding of customer and delegate needs. Our head office staff take part in a Competency Based Development Programme which includes coaching, mentoring and personal development plans.
As a training provider we understand the value of relevant training and encourage our teams to attend courses that are relevant to their roles. Courses Alpha staff have completed include: IOSH Managing Safely; NEBOSH; First Aid; HR Management; Equipment Inspection CPD and City & Guilds Managing Work in Confined Space, Adult Mental Health First Aid and First Response Emergency Care (Level 3).
Our Customer and Training Support Team Leader Louise Everist has successfully completed a NVQ Diploma and Technical Certificate in Leadership and Management. To support her she has received regular mentoring from senior management, been involved in special projects and received study leave to ensure she had the time to prepare for assignments.
Staff are empowered to develop themselves in their day to day operations as well as professionally, so to capture this, the team came up with a Customer Charter stating, agreeing and signing up to the Standards that each and every one of them works and adheres to. The Charter sets the ground rules for the team and their aspirations to be the best they can be for their customers.
