How times have changed!

Theses great photographs appeared in the Times newspaper today – showing workers suspended across the face of the famous London landmark that is Big Ben – giving the clock face a good clean.

Compare to this to the picture of the guy doing the same job in 1980 – sitting, unsecured on a rope, with no helmet and no harness!

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 came into force on 6 April 2005. The Regulations apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause injury. The Regulations place duties on employers, the self-employed, and any person that controls the work of others (for example, facilities managers or building owners who may contract others to work at height).
